Agartala September 11,2019 : Former chief minister and incumbent leader of the opposition Manik Sarkar has called upon the people of the state to begin preparation from house to house for larger and vigorous struggle to elicit the nine-point charter of pro-people demands, raised by the party. Sarkar made the clarion call in a massive rally held in the town after a mass deputation of party workers and supporters with the SDM (Sonamura). Before that thousands of CPI (M) workers and supporters had marched through different roads of the town under the leadership of Manik Sarkar and Badal Chowdhury.
Addressing the massive gathering Manik said that the people of the state were reeling under the misrule of the BJP government and their anti-people policies over the past one and half year . 'The time for petition and complaint to the government is now over; now is the time for all-out struggle to protect the interests of the poor people and downtrodden which also include tribals , SCs and minorities; we are left with no other alaternative but to launch an all out fight ' said Manik . He said that according to BJP's tall and fake claims that machine of state government was now being run by a 'double engine' government but where is the result. 'Even the poorest of poor people are being targeted with chargeable health service , taxes in many sectors of the state government have been increased and even the charges of Tripura Bhawans in Calcutta where people go for treatment have been increased ; is this not anti-people activity' said Manik. He appealed to the people across the state to get rid of their intertia and hit the streets so that the anti-people government can be removed through democratic agitation and the power of the people.

Former finance and PWD minister Badal Chowdhury said that the present government was destroying the socio-economic and political fabric of Tripura by its anti-people policies. 'All of you come out to the streets and join the peoples agitation ; this is the only means of getting rid of the curse symbolized by this government ; they are only acting on political vendetta' said Badal . Yesterday's procession and rally in Sonamura may turn out to be a major turning point in state politics at a time when the state government is embroiled in major controversies over many decisions. Most of the nine-point charter of demands raised by the CPI (M) relate to interests of the people including farmers, agricultural workers , BPL families and other people at the grassroot level.
