Manik attacks state government with charge of 'lawlessness', calls for mass agitation

By Our Correspondent

Agartala September 11 ,2019 : The democratic ambience in the state has been completely destroyed and a situation of lawlessness reigns supreme. The workers and supporters of the opposition are being indiscriminately attacked without any rhyme or reason but police take no action despite being informed with specific details. Even the chief minister is playing the role of a silent spectator as the gory things continue to happen.

Making this assertion to a group  of media persons the leader of the opposition Manik Sarkar who had gone to visit the house of assaulted CPI (M) worker of Bankumari area, Biswajit Saha,  said that Tripura had never experienced such 'misrule in the state over the past seventy years' . 'What is most unfortunate is that ours is a multi-party democracy in India , there must be opposition ; no party can rule in state or centre for ever and , hence, it is desirable that the opposition party do not face any hurdle in functioning ; but in Tripura such concepts seem to have completely disappeared;'said Manik.

Sarkar also said that his party was totally disappointed over the role of the chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb who was acting only a silent spectator even as all this is going on, so the CPI (M) will never go to him to seek any redress. ‘But now those who worked for BJP in 2018 are coming back with their experiences and people have started coming out in protest ; things will change in Tripura soon' said Manik.

He  also expressed his amazement over the role of the police in dealing with specific complaints made to them with names , saying that after the assault on AMC Councillor Bipad Bandhu Rishi Das complaints had been registered with police with names of assailants but no action has been taken . Secondly , in regard to the assault on Biswajit Saha in Bankumari also , police took no action though FIR had been filed with names of Rajesh Saha and Sukanta Chakraborty as assailants but in this case also police is yet to take any action . 'If this continues people of the state will be forced to come out on streets in protest and an unpleasant situation will be created' said Manik.
