IPFT demand inquiry by sitting high court judge , compensation for victims of Madhab Bari firing

Agartala, January 11, 2018 : The IPFT, partner in the state's ruling coalition with BJP, has demanded a time-bound inquiry by a sitting high court judge into the police firing at Madhavbari in Jirania on January 8 and compensation for the six victims of the firing incident. Besides, the IPFT will launch a movement against the citizenship amendment bill of Centre after the upcoming 'Sankranti' is over while neither supporting nor opposing the ADC 'bandh' called by INPT tomorrow. The decisions in this regard including the demand for financial compensation and jobs for the victims of firing was taken in a meeting of central executive body of IPFT and senior leaders of its frontal organizations including party president Narendra Chandra Debbarma, general secretary Mebar Kumar Jamatya, vice president Ananta Debbarma, assistant general secretaries Mangal Debbarma, Vrishaketu Debbarma, MLAs Sindhu Charan Jamatya , Dhirendra Debbarma and leaders of womens front, students front , employees front , youth front etc . Altogether 53 seniormost leaders of the party attended the meeting.

Briefing media-persons about the decisions taken in the meeting IPFT leaders said that they were demanding a time-bound judicial inquiry by a sitting high court judge into the Madhavbari incident, compensation of Rs 10 lakhs each to the victims of firing , a job to each one of the six injured in police firing and the treatment of the victims at government expense. The leaders said that the ‘bandh’ and road blockade programme on January 8 had been supported by student front of IPFT in response to NESU's call for it against the citizenship amendment bill and not the whole party. They also condemned the police harassment of ambulances that were carrying victims of firing to hospital. The leaders said that they were demanding completion of the judicial inquiry within fifteen days and punishment for police personnel involved in the firing incident.

Apart from this , the IPFT have decided to put up a candidate in the East loksabha seat in the upcoming elections but the final decision would be taken after consultation with union home minister Rajnath Singh and BJP national president Amit Shah. 'We have already had primary discussions with BJP leaders over the issue ; Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam requested us to concede this seat but in response to our demand BJP national president Amit Shah and union home minister Rajnath Singh said that a decision on the matter would be taken after consultations ; we will be awaiting the meeting and a final decision will be taken then' said a top leader of IPFT.
