Employees resent non-payment of dearness allowance , demand early payment of a few instalments

Agartala May 15,2019 : Non-payment of any dearness allowance (DA) to the state's employees and officers has created serious resentment among them. The employees divided into various union and associations and scared of vindictive action have kept silent so far but are in secret discussions with one another to elicit their demands . During the past two and half years the employees in Tripura have not been sanctioned a single installment of DA. The erstwhile left front government had upgraded the salaries of state's employees by granting the factor point of 2.25% to the basic pay in order to give benefit which was much less than what the 7th central pay commission had recommended. But no DA was given .

After coming to power the BJP-IPFT government raised the factor point from 2.25 to 2.57 as part of their promised implementation of the 7th CPC for state's employees which raised salaries at the basic point but no installment of DA was sanctioned and the situation remains the same . Even though the central government employees currently draw 12% of DA and are likely to be given another installment in July this year the state’s employees remain left high and dry. There has also been no revision of important allowances like the house rent and medical allowance . The cumulative effect of all this is deep and growing  resentment among employees and state cadre officers .

Sources in the administration said that if the present situation marked by financial mishandling continued the employees would be forced to come under a single banner to launch agitational programme within the parameters of service conduct rules . The state administration seems to be in for a period of unrest which will commence soon.
