Agartala October 09 ,2019 : Despite apprehensions to the contrary, the four-day 'Durga Puja' festival in the state passed off more or less peacefully without any untoward incident. There were small bouts of late monsoon rainfall on the days of 'Saptami' and 'Ashami' but this did not deter 'puja' fesitivities or rush of people  on the road . There were usual pandal-hopping and late night walking on the roads and movement by vehicles . Even though an ongoing cash crunch marred the 'Puja' festivities and revelry to a limited extent there was no dearth of it anywhere in the state. Power supply remained uninterrupted all through the four days of 'Durga Puja' in Agartala town and its outlying area but in subdivisions and district towns there were occasions bouts of load shedding . The Palatana power project failed to keep supply going on 'Navami' day but the shortfall was made up by excess drawal of power from the northeastern grid .
All  the leaders of ruling party including the chief minister visited many 'puja' pandals and inaugurated many of them. The former minister Sudip Roy Barman also went out with family to town and had food from a roadside vendor's shop. He also visited many 'pandals' and inaugurated the 'Pujas'. Almost all other 'Pujas' did the same.

There were minor mishaps as the huge gate of 'Bharat Ratna Sangha' in Usha Bazar suddenly collapsed under the impact of a sudden storm plunging the entire area in darkess which was restored soon. Besides , a CPI ()M) supporter a BJP supporter nephew injured his CPI (M) supporter uncle by stone-pelting  in Belonia. In Gouranga till area under Kalyanpur two groups of BJP supporters engaged in a minor clash while the hanging deadbody of one CPI (M) supporter Subhas Chandra Saha was recovered from his house in Dukli area . Police said the main might have committed suicide. The immersion of 'Durga' and other deities has been going on from yesterday.
