Congress-INPT electoral understanding likely

Agartala, March 14, 2019: If everything falls in right place, Indigenous Nationalist Front of Tripura (IPFT) would forge electoral tie up with Congress for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

INPT president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl, who went to Delhi to meet Congress president Rahul Gandhi, returned to the state. He has already briefed the party leaders on the outcome of his Delhi visit.

"We may forge alliance with Congress for the Lok Sabha election as it has supported the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill-2016. A final call on the alliance issue will be cemented once PCC president Pradyot Kishore Debbarman returns to the state", said INPT general secretary Jagadish Debbarma here today.

Pradyot, who is scheduled to come down from Delhi today has been trying to get support from NCT and IPFT Tipraha to up a decent fight against the resurgent BJP-IPFT combine.

Congress sources said the party is aimed to make a mark in the East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency by stitching alliance with tribal based party banking on the growing resentment among the indigenous people.
