CPI (M) to stage demonstration on April 16 protesting rigging on LS polls

Agartala, April 15, 2019: Reiterating their demands for re-polls in 464 polling booths under West Tripura parliamentary constituency, Left Front once again urged the ECI to ensure the free and fair polling in the Tripura East seat which goes to the polls in the second phase on April 18.

Addressing a press conference  at CPI(M) headquarters on Sunday afternoon, Left Front convener Bijan Dhar said a delegation of Left Front once again met the CEO, Tripura and said  despite their repeated appeals to Election Commission of India (ECI) and subsequent assurances by them, the general elections for West Tripura parliamentary constituency was a total farce and state administration in collaboration of state election machinery kept the central and state forces out of the poll duties to facilitating the ruling party to rig the entire election process.

LF the CEO as per assurance of ECI, nothing was visible during first phase polls and urged him do not turn the Lok Sabha polls in the East Tripura seat on April 18 into a farce.

The Left parties would hold a sit-in demonstration on April 16 next in Agartala in support of their demands and protesting the alleged rigging during polls for West Tripura seat.

The election department totally failed to maintain their commitment , said Dhar adding  people of Tripura never witnessed such of mass rigging and violent polling in general elections. They urged the CEO to considering the ground situation of West Tripura seat’s polls, the ECI should ensure an conducive atmosphere for free and fair polls in East Tripura seat.

The CEO had confessed that he had received over 800 complaints during the first phase of polling which were being scrutinized by the RO along with other poll related documents and electronic evidences and the process of scrutiny is still underway, said Dhar.

The traditional festive nature of Tripura during elections was completely missing in the first phase of polling, as the BJP workers and their hooligans intimidated, prevented and attacked thousands of voters, including innocent BJP supporters on the polling day , claimed Dhar adding that BJP workers and their goons drove out Left and other parties' polling agents from hundreds of polling stations and prevented thousands of opposition supporters from casting their votes.

Demanding complete deployment of Central Arms Police Forces (CAPFs) in entire areas of East Tripura seat for confidence building among the voters including area domination patrolling, ensure security of all polling agents, LF leaders urged the CEO to protect the democracy.

LF leaders also appealed to voters to resist any kind of violence by ruling and they should defeat the fear and intimidation to maintain the democratic spirit. LF leaders also said that CEO assured that all complaints of LF are being scrutinized and would take all possible steps to prevent violence.
