CPI (M) protest Chief Minister speeches, complaint to ECI

By Our Correspondent

Agartala, March 23, 2019: The oppositions CPI(M) has raised protests against remarks of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and  in a protest letters, CPI(M) had complaint before ECI, that Deb had violates 'model code of conduct'.

CPI(M) in their complaint letter attached with news and video clippings said on March 20 last, Tripura Chief Minister and president of state unit of BJP  said  "If Narendra Modi will not be voted to power, the employees of the state shall not achieve arrears of  7th Pay Commission, they will not get 12% DA which is not yet paid, the pensioners shall be deprived of their enhanced pension". The social pension-holders shall not achieve Rs. 2000/- pension per month, The gas connections provided under 'Ujala Yojana' scheme will be stopped, commission will be charged from the beneficiaries under 'Soubhagya Yojana', the procurement of paddy by FCI will be cancelled, the benefit of the Rs. 6000 for the peasants under 'PM's Krishan Sahayata Yojana' will be stopped.

CPI (M) also said that Biplab Deb also added that "If Modiji does not come back to power in this parliamentary election, then Indian citizens would be butchered by Pakistanis like that happened on 26/11. Only because of Modi, surgical strike was possible after Pulwama incident. Only because of Modi Pakistan was compelled to release Abhinandan only within two days after his arrest in Pakistan". He also suggested the participants to persuade the people with these points.

CPI (M) in their complaint letter signed by party secretary Goutam Das also claimed that some of the benefits that the Chief Minister mentioned in his speech are partly implemented in Tripura also. But discontinuation of these existing benefits must not be related with electoral victory or defeat of any particular party. Thus such derogatory speech amounts to 'corrupt practice' as good as 'bribing' to the electorate, said CPI (M).

They also mentioned that, though the ECI in an order imposed restriction in use of the references of surgical strike, fighting in Kashmir border including the Pulwama massacre for taking credit by any political party, the Tripura Chief Minister in his speech has blatantly violated this restriction.

CPI (M) demanded that for the sake of fairness of electoral campaign, particularly in the state of Tripura which has become vulnerable in respect of democratic practice, the ECI would take appropriate measure against such electoral misconduct by a highest authority of the state as well as of state BJP unit which is a ruling party.
