CM reviews plan implementation, feasibility of water-way and other development programmes

Agartala June 12 ,2019 : The state government had decided to accelerate the process of distributing five thousand cows among cattle-rearer people in the state and the department of animal resource development (ARD) has been tasked to ensure this. What the ARD has been asked to do is selected high quality cows that will yield considerable quantity of milk commensurate with the investment made in purchasing them. This was discussed and finalized in a meeting of the state planning board presided over by the chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb. He has asked the ARD officials to initiate discussion with various dairy organizations as potential customers for the milk products.

Apart from this, the chief minister was also apprised of the progress made in converting the Gomati-Meghana stretch of the two rivers into a viable water-way. The secretary of the transport department L.Darlong informed the chief minister that a meeting had been held with the inland water authority of India and certain decisions were arrived at . The proposed water-way will connect Sonamura with Dawoodkandi in Bangladesh but an eighteen km stretch of the river will have to be dredged for smooth passage of water-vehicles. Out of the total stretch of eighteen kms , 3 kms will have to be dredged in Sonamura while the remaining part will have to be dredged inside Bangladesh. The funding for expenses on the dredging will have to be sanctioned by Centre.

Reviewing the progress in the construction of stretches of national highways the chief minister said that seven highway stretches will have to be repaired in the current financial year . As for agriculture the secretary Debasish Basu informed the meeting that agriculture department has set a target of ensuring production of 30 thousand matric tons of rice in the current year. While listening to education secretary Soumya Gupta's briefing on work being done by the education department the chief minister laid stress on proper implementation of 'Naya Disha' scheme in the interest of students. He also asked the education secretary to see that Arts and Dance teachers are appointed in various schools soon in the interest of complete education of students.
