Biplab claims three times increase in state revenue, calls for higher expenditure on infrastructure

By Our Correspondent

Agartala July 10 ,2019 : Tripura's own revenue in the financial year 2018-2019 has increased by 26% compared with previous left front regime's revenue collection. During the left front rule for twenty five years the state's revenue remained static at 10-11% and the rest would be taken care of by the central grants and assistance as well as funds for centrally sponsored schemes.

Making this assertion in a religious programme at Jagannath temple yesterday the chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb said that 75% of the state's budget of around 16 thousand crores have to be spent on salaries and allowances of employees and pensions of retired employees. 'There is a huge gap in plan and non-plan expenditure in the state as more than 75% of the non-plan expenditure is allocated to serving and retired employees; you can easily understand that a state's gross domestic product (GDP) can not rise with non-plan expenditure ; we have to ensure development expenditure and infrastructure work' said Biplab.

He stressed on augmentation of the state's own income through various instruments like tourism, industrialization and investments and said that major initiatives have been taken in that direction . 'While trying for this we have already achieved in pushing up state's own revenue collection by 26% as against 10-11% earlier during the left front rule ; now we have to try to push this up further to 40-50% to stand on our own and we will achieve this with the help of the people' said the chief minister. He thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving priority to the northeastern region in his policies and programmes and said that within next three years Tripura will emerge as a 'model state' in the country.
