Assault on doctor: Victim's family alleges gross negligence

Agartala, April 13, 2019: At a time all section of the society are concerned with   the statewide massive controversy on alleged attacks on a resident surgeon in IGM hospital by relatives of a pregnant woman after her death with her new born child during delivery, the narrated version of victim family has stated another version of gross negligence in duty by medicos of IGM hospital.

Speaking with media persons, the parents and husband of victim woman Mampi Das (20), who died in IGM hospital during delivery and subsequent assault on the doctor by her relatives, which triggered statewide reaction, have accused the hospital authorities with gross negligence which led to  the death of Mampi and her child.

The husband of deceased, Govinda Das said that on last Wednesday afternoon Mampi was admitted with high pain of pregnancy at the IGM hospital. But after admission in the hospital, visiting doctors had given different statements in different times on her condition of health.

The father of victim woman, Ruhi Das of Kamalnagar area of Khowai said that as she was suffering from severe pain of pregnancy, visiting doctor suggested to admit her and they admitted Mampi in the hospital by giving necessary medicines as suggested by doctor. The doctor also suggested to conduct a Ultrasonography  test on the next, though victim family insisted for urgent ultrasonography, but doctors in duty denied. As her pain became acute and at about 9.30 PM of Wednesday night, the relatives of Mampi called some nurses on duty. Later, she was shifted to labour room. When, her parents rushed  to bring some clothes, suddenly they noticed  rush of medicos in the labour room.

Immediately, the mother of victim  also rushed to the labour room, she noticed that her daughter was totally unconscious and doctors in the labour room were  pressing her chest for smooth respiration. Then, a nurse asked the relatives of Mampi and informed them Mampi had suffered  severe cardiac arrest.

She also stated that, later few more doctors visited the labour room and after one and half hours, they informed her that Mampi had breathed her last. The victim's  relatives  also accused that in the initial stage of her severe pain, no doctor was attending Mampi.

Govinda Das alleged that he was assured by Dr Dipankar Debnath that his wife’s delivery would be possible in normal delivery method and after half an hour he was informed that Mampi met a cardiac arrest. Das also accused that Dr Dipankar Debnath had totally given misinformation on the actual condition of the patient and he abruptly abused the patient party, when they wanted to know the condition of their patient.

Govinda also alleged that he lost his wife and new born son due to gross negligence by Dr. Dipankar Debnath and also alleged that if his wife got timely attention, then they could save their lives.
