By Air – The nearest airport is Lilabari in Assam, 57 kilometers from Naharlagun and 67 kilometers from Itanagar. Lilabari is a small airport and flights operate only from a few destinations. Another airport is at Tezpur. Indian Airlines provides regular flights from Calcutta to both the places. The drive from Guwahati to Itanagar is 360 kilometers and takes around 8 hours.

By Rail – The major Railway Station is North Lakhimpur in Assam, which is only 50 kilometers from Naharlagun and 60 kilometers from Itanagar. Nearest Railway station is Harrmoty in Assam. 23 kilometers from Naharlagun and 33 kilometers from ltanagar. The station is served by Arunachal Express.

By Road – Itanagar is connected with other major towns in the region such as Agartala, Aizawl, Kohima, Guwahati, Imphal, and Shillong by roads. The drive from Guwahati to Itanagar is 360 kilometers and takes around 8 hours. Two major highway are the 336 kilometer National Highway 52, connects Jonai with Dirak. Another highway connects Tezpur in Assam with Tawang. All the places are connected to Assam. Each town has got its own bus station and daily bus services are available. Private vehicles are also available.


By Air: Guwahati is well connected with rest of the country by air. Regular air connection is available to and from Kolkata, Delhi, Bagdogra, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Paro, Bangkok etc. The name of the Guwahati airport is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. The town of Shillong, Tura, Naharlagun, Tawang is connected by regular helicopter service from Guwahati Airport

By Rail: The city is the major railhead of the Northern Frontier Railway. A good number of long distance trains are available for Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi etc.

By Road: 3 national highways (NH 31, NH 37, NH 40) are passing through Guwahati. Many buses with different routes all over the state and beyond the state are available.


By Air – Imphal has its own airport, it is 7 kilometers downtown. Imphal is connected by air with Kolkata and New Delhi. Indian Airlines, Jet Airways connects Imphal to Delhi, 4 hours Journey. Imphal to Kolkata is 1 hour, Guwahati is 50 minutes, Aizwal 30 minutes, Jorhat 35 minutes and Silchar is 30 minutes.

By Rail – There is no direct train service to Imphal. Nearest railway station is Dimapur and Manipur Road on the North East Frontier Railway (NEF) nearly 215 kilometers from Imphal. Another railway station is in Jiribam 225 kilometers from Imphal. Or travelers can travel up to Guwahati (nearest major rail head from Imphal) by bus or by air.

By Road – Imphal to Dimapur is 8 to 9 hours journey. Buses and private vehicles are mostly used for transportation but buses are preferable. Routes are from Guwahati by NH 39 via Dimapur and Kohima, MSRTC and many other private buses are available. Manipur State Road Transport Corporation and many other private buses are available and from Silchar daily on the NH 39 via Jiribam. Mostly MSRTC and many other private buses are available.


By Air – Nearest Major airport is Guwahati, direct flights available from Kolkata, Delhi, and Bagdogra. It also has link to the rest of the country and with Bangkok. The nearest airport is at Umroi, 35 kilometers from Shillong, which connects this lovely town of Tura by air. There is a helicopter service from Guwahati Airport to Shillong.

By Rail – There are no rail lines in Meghalaya. The nearest major railhead is at Guwahati, which is at a distance of 103 kilometers. Guwahati is well connected with the rest of the country by broad gauge rail, road and airways.

By Road - Shillong is connected by a long road in between high hills and deep elevations with the rest of the country through Guwahati, Silchar and Garo Hills. Rergular bus service is available to & from Guwahati to reach Shillong. These are generally SUV sized vehicles (Tata Sumo & Mahindra Bolero) shared between 8 people. They take around 3 hours to reach Shillong from Guwahati. Private vehicles are also available. Jowai is 66 kilometers Nongstoin is 93 kilometers, Nongpoh is 53 kilometers, Baghmara (Via Tura) is 445 kilometers, Sohra (Cherrapunjee) 49 is kilometers, Tura is 323 kilometers, Williamnagar is 312 kilometers, Shella is 93 kilometers, Mawsynram is 58 kilometers, Mawkynrew is 46 kilometers, Mawryngkneng is 37 kilometers, Umling is 70 kilometers, Umsning 30 is kilometers, Mawkyrwat is 74 kilometers and Mawphlang is 24 kilometers from Shillong.


By Air - Nearest major airport is Shillong. Aizawl, the capital town of Mizoram is linked by Alliance Air Service everyday to Kolkata nearly 1 hour 45 minutes, Guwahati is 40 minutes and Imphal is 30 minutes. Lengpui airport at Aizawl is connected with Guwahati, Silchar & Kolkata. It is well connected to all the capital cities of the north eastern states of India. Aizawl is also connected to Kolkata, 1547 kilometers by air, through which it is connected to the rest of the India.

By Rail - The nearest rail station is in Silchar, which is 185 kilometers away from Aizawl. One can travel from Guwahati to Silchar by Barak Valley Express, Cachar Express or the Tripura Passenger.

By Road – National Highway number 54 connects Aizwal with the rest of the country through Silchar. Buses and taxis are available from Silchar to Aizwal. 24 hours bus services are available. Aizawl can be approached by road from Shillong and Guwahati. Aizawl is close to Guwahati (Assam) at a distance of 466 kilometers, Imphal (Manipur) is about 361 kilometers from Aizawl. Shillong (Meghalaya) is about 420 kilometers from Aizawl. Agartala (Tripura) is about 457 kilometers from Aizawl. Kohima is 506 kilometers from Aizawl.


By Air – Dimapur is the only place in the State from where air services are available. There is a tri - weekly Indian Airlines service connecting Dimapur with Kolkata. There are over 9 domestic flights per week from Dimapur and connects with 2 cities nonstop. Dimapur has the only airport in Nagaland. Indian Airlines plies four flights a week to Dimapur from Kolkata & Delhi. The airport is 70 kilometers from Dimapur

By Rail – Dimapur is the only place in the State from where train services are available. Dimapur is an important railhead of North East Frontier Railway (Indian Railway).

By Road – The national highway 39 passes through the heart of this commercial centre of the state. Kohima the state capital is only at a distance of 74 kilometers from Dimapur, which one can cover in just two hours. State Transport services, private buses can be availed at any time. Many private night super tourist buses are also plying from Dimapur to various important cities and towns in North East India. Guwahati is about 292 kilometers from Dimapur. Imphal, the capital of Manipur is around 216 kilometers from Dimapur.


By Air: The state does not have any airport. The nearest airport is Bagdogra (near Siliguri) in West Bengal, which lies only 125kms away from Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim.

By Rail: The state does not have any rail network in its boundary. The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (near Siliguri), which is connected to Gangtok by road.

By Road: Although the state of Sikkim lies at the foothills of the Himalayas, it has a good network of roads. The state can be entered through northern areas of West Bengal.


By Air: The main airport of the state is located in Agartala, the state capital. Agartala is connected with all the major airports of the country, Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati etc.

By Rail: Kumarghat is linked by railways to Guwahati, which is in turn connected to the rest of the country. Agartala is well connected to Lumding & Silchar by daily Agartala Lumding express.

By Road: National Highway No.44 connects Agartala to Guwahati via Shillong in 24 hours.
